Easy Memorial Day Setup That Looks Expensive (But Isn’t)
I didn’t plan to go all out for Memorial Day this year.
I just wanted something simple — a cozy setup outside, a few drinks, maybe a game… nothing stressful.
But somehow, it ended up looking like one of those Pinterest backyards.
And the best part?
It didn’t take much time, effort, or money.
This is exactly how I pulled it together — plus a few easy drinks and games that make the whole thing feel like a real night, not just decorations.
🌿 The Setup (What Makes It Work)
The goal here wasn’t “perfect.”
It was:
👉 cozy
👉 easy
👉 feels put together without trying too hard
Here’s what actually made the biggest difference:

A simple outdoor seating area (chairs + pillows = instant upgrade) A fire pit (this changes everything at night) A table with a red gingham cloth (very minimal effort, big visual impact) A few small American flags + string lights
That’s it.
No complicated decorating. No overthinking.
🛍️ What I Used (Simple + Affordable)
You don’t need anything fancy — just a few pieces that do a lot visually:
Patriotic throw pillows (these carry the whole look honestly) Red & white gingham tablecloth Small American flag banner or mini flags Outdoor rug (adds that “finished” feel) Patio umbrella (makes it feel like a space) Lanterns or candles for evening

I linked everything I used here:
🥤 Easy Memorial Day Drinks (Juice Recipes)
If you already have your juicer… this is your moment 😄
🍓 Red Glow Juice
- Strawberries
- Watermelon
- Apple
Light, refreshing, and very “summer kickoff” energy.
🍋 Citrus Chill Juice
- Orange
- Pineapple
- Lemon
Bright and slightly tangy — perfect for hot afternoons.
🫐 Blueberry Breeze (mocktail style)
- Blueberries
- Apple
- Splash of sparkling water
This one feels a little more fun and festive.
You can also turn any of these into mocktails:
Add ice Add sparkling water Garnish with fruit
Suddenly it feels like you planned everything.
🔥 The Game-Changer: Fire Pit Time
I didn’t realize how much the fire pit would carry the night.

Once the sun goes down:
Lights turn on Fire starts going Everyone just… stays
It turns your setup from:
👉 “cute backyard”
into
👉 “we’re hanging out here all night”
🎲 Easy Game Ideas (Low Effort, High Fun)
Nothing complicated — just things people actually want to do.
1. Card Games
Simple deck = hours of entertainment
2. “Would You Rather” (adult version optional 😂)
Always ends up funnier than expected
3. Backyard Trivia
Memorial Day theme Summer theme Totally random
4. Chill Games
Uno Dominoes Even just music + conversation works
✨ Why This Setup Works
This is the part people don’t always talk about:
👉 It’s not about decorating more
👉 It’s about creating a feeling
You’re combining:
- Comfort (pillows, blankets)
- Lighting (fire + string lights)
- Simple color theme (red, white, blue)
- Something to do (drinks + games)
That’s what makes it feel complete.
💡 If You Want to Keep It Even Simpler
You could honestly just do: Chairs Pillows One table Drinks
And it would still work.
This doesn’t need to be complicated to feel special.
✨ What to Wear: Easy Memorial Day Outfit Ideas
You don’t need a whole new wardrobe for Memorial Day — the goal is something that feels comfortable, effortless, and a little festive without trying too hard.
For this setup, I kept it simple with pieces that work for:
sitting outside moving around hosting and still looking put together in photos
👗 The Go-To Dress (Easy + Comfortable)
A lightweight, flowy dress is honestly the easiest option.
It’s:
breathable for warm weather easy to throw on and instantly looks styled without effort
Stripes, soft blues, or subtle red accents work really well for that Memorial Day feel without going full theme.
👉 This is one of those pieces that does all the work for you.
👡 Simple Sandals You Can Actually Wear All Day
Skip anything complicated.
A pair of flat sandals or slides:
keeps it casual easy to kick off if you’re outside and comfortable if you’re walking around hosting
Look for something neutral that goes with everything — tan, brown, or white always works.
🕶️ Sunglasses + Small Extras
This is where the outfit comes together without effort.
A few easy add-ons:
sunglasses (practical + instantly styled) a woven or straw bag simple jewelry if you want to dress it up a bit
Nothing over the top — just enough to feel finished.
🧺 The “Grab and Go” Bag
If you’re hosting or heading to someone else’s place, a small tote or woven bag is perfect for carrying:
sunscreen phone + charger a drink or small extras
It keeps everything in one place and still fits the casual outdoor vibe.
💡 The Overall Goal
The whole idea here is:
👉 look put together without thinking too hard about it
If you’re comfortable, you’ll enjoy hosting more — and that’s kind of the point.
❤️ Closing
This ended up being one of those nights where I didn’t feel like I had to “host” anything.
Everything was just… there.
Easy, relaxed, and honestly one of my favorite setups I’ve done.
