Gizmo’s Favorite Dog Toys, Treats, and Cozy Essentials

Gizmo has very strong opinions for someone who contributes absolutely nothing to the household budget.
Over the years, he has made it clear which toys are worth carrying around, which treats deserve immediate attention, and which cozy spots meet his very specific lounging standards.
This is a roundup of the dog toys, treats, and everyday favorites Gizmo actually uses. Some are products we have repurchased, while others are current favorites that have survived his personal review process.
Meet Gizmo

Gizmo is my brown-and-white American Cocker Spaniel with blue eyes and a lot of personality.
He loves plush toys, treats, soft blankets, yard play, and monitoring backyard squirrels as though the entire neighborhood depends on him.
He does not pretend to like everything I buy. A product either becomes part of his regular rotation, or it quietly joins the pile of purchases I apparently made for myself.
Some items in this post are products Gizmo personally uses. Others may be similar, well-reviewed options that fit the same category.

Gizmo’s Favorite Plush Dog Toys
Blue Octopus Plush Toy

The blue octopus is one of those toys Gizmo can wrestle with, carry around, and eventually use as a pillow.
It is soft enough for cuddling but still works for active play. He tends to come back to toys that are easy to grab and move around the house, and this one fits that category perfectly.
Why Gizmo likes it:
- Easy to carry
- Good for indoor play
- Soft enough to cuddle
- Has survived repeated attention

Plush Squirrel Toy

The plush chipmunk appeals to Gizmo’s tiny hunting-dog instincts without requiring an actual woodland creature to enter the house.
He likes animal-shaped toys he can carry around like prized possessions, and this one has become a regular favorite.
It is a good option for dogs who enjoy softer toys with enough shape to grab, shake, and drag from room to room.

Interactive Toys for Active Play
Automatic Bouncing Ball
The interactive bouncing ball is for the moments when Gizmo wants something more exciting than a regular plush toy.
It rolls, bounces, and moves in ways that keep his attention longer than a completely still toy. It is especially useful when he is in an energetic mood and wants something to investigate.
As with any active dog toy, I supervise him while he uses it and put it away when playtime is over.

Outdoor Soccer Ball
Gizmo also enjoys playing with a soccer ball outside.
The larger size makes it a different experience from his indoor toys, and it gives him something to chase, push, and attempt to steal from whoever is trying to play with him.
It is one of his favorite options for yard play when he is feeling particularly athletic.

Why Gizmo loves it: He’s a fetch maniac. Bonus points for the loud squeak.
Lisa’s note: Tougher than your average tennis ball, so they last longer than 10 minutes.

Why Gizmo loves it: It’s like doggy sudoku. Keeps him busy solving snack mysteries while I get a moment of peace.
Lisa’s note: Great for rainy days when he’s bouncing off the walls.
Treats Gizmo Gets Excited About

Freeze-Dried Salmon Skin Treats

These salmon treats get Gizmo’s attention immediately.
They are different from standard biscuit-style treats and feel more like a special reward. They also have enough of a fishy smell to make him suddenly remember that he is an exceptionally well-trained dog.
I like keeping them on hand for moments when an ordinary treat simply will not do.

Other Tasty Dog Treats

The Barkworthies sticks are serious chew therapy.

Why Gizmo loves it: Two words: crunchy bliss.
Lisa’s note: The Jack & Pup bites are the perfect size for training or bribery (no judgment).
Gizmo’s Cozy Favorites
His Fluffy Dog Bed

Gizmo’s fluffy dog bed is one of his official lounging headquarters.
It is soft, nest-like, and perfect for curling up when he wants a little space of his own. He settles into it with the seriousness of someone checking into a luxury resort.
A cozy bed is one of the easier dog purchases to judge because they either use it or they do not. Gizmo definitely uses this one.

Why Gizmo loves it: He sinks into this thing like a sleepy cinnamon roll.
Lisa’s note: Stylish enough to not scream “dog bed” in your living room.
His Favorite Blanket Spots

Gizmo is also very much a blanket dog.
If there is a soft throw nearby, he will find it. He especially likes chunky blankets and anything that creates a warm little nest on the couch or bed.
Apparently, blankets make every surface better.
Everyday Dog Essentials We Use for Gizmo
Toys and treats usually get all the attention, but a few practical everyday products make Gizmo’s life easier too.
Harness
A comfortable harness is one of those practical items that matters a lot more than it sounds like it should. For walks, car rides, or just getting outside without a wrestling match, having a harness that is easy to put on and take off makes life easier.
This style is nice because it is structured, adjustable, and designed to go on without a lot of fuss. That is always appreciated when your dog is ready to go before you are.

Retractable Leash
A retractable leash has been another useful everyday item for Gizmo. It gives him a little more freedom to explore while still keeping him safely attached to the human in charge of snacks and transportation.
For walks and outdoor time, it is helpful to have a leash that feels sturdy and comfortable to hold. This is one of those boring-but-necessary dog products that ends up being part of daily life.

Dog Grooming Vacuum
Gizmo has a thick Cocker Spaniel coat, so grooming can turn into a whole event very quickly. We use a dog grooming vacuum that combines clippers, a brush, a nail grinder, and several grooming attachments in one system.
The biggest advantage is that it collects loose hair while you work instead of letting it float around the room and attach itself to every surface you own. That alone makes at-home grooming feel much more manageable.
I also like that the different attachments can be used for brushing, trimming, and general cleanup. It does not replace professional grooming for us, but it is helpful for maintenance between appointments and for keeping shedding under control.

Gizmo’s Favorite Free Hobby: Squirrel Patrol
Not every one of Gizmo’s favorite things comes from Amazon.
One of his favorite activities is sitting by the back door or window and watching the yard for squirrels.
He can stay completely focused on this task for an impressive amount of time, usually with a toy sitting nearby in case squirrel patrol suddenly turns into playtime.
He treats backyard surveillance like a full-time job, although the benefits package appears to consist entirely of snacks and naps.

What Gizmo Actually Uses
The products in this post are not simply things that photographed well once.
These are the toys he carries around, the treats that get an immediate reaction, and the cozy spots he continues choosing on his own.
That is usually the best test of whether a dog product is worth buying. Dogs are brutally honest reviewers.

Final Thoughts

Gizmo’s favorites tend to fall into three categories: something fun to carry, something tasty to eat, or something soft to sleep on.
Honestly, that seems like a pretty reasonable approach to life.
I plan to keep updating this post as he discovers new favorites, rejects more of my perfectly sensible purchases, or expands his squirrel-monitoring responsibilities.
